Ultimate novel by Harper Lee. I could not put down the book until I finished it. It feels great when you read such a best-seller book. The story revolves around a young girl named Jean Louise whose nickname is “Scout”. Scout and her brother Jem are being brought up by their father Atticus , a lawyer and housekeeper named Calpumia. The story begins when Scout is 6 years old. Thet have a friend named Dill. There is Mr. Radley who always locks him in his home. The kids call Mr. Radley ugly and evil man. Then comes the trial. Scout’s father becomes a defense attorney for a black man, Tom Robinson, who is falsely accused of raping a white women. This has a big affect on Scout. During this trial she gets teased by friends as her father was helping this black man. Then Scout find that racism exists. The kids witness trial and finds that Mr. Robinson is innocent. But still Mr. Robinson is still found guilty. Mr. Robinson is shot dead. Scout is extremely disappointed at his death and realizes the injustice that exist. Later, the rape victim’s father attempts to kill Scout and Jem to take revenge from her father, but then comes Mr. Radley who save their life. While defending them, he kills a man but not caught up by police. Then Scout sees that there is justice also in this unjustified world.
Very good story line. Harper Lee has beautifully described the story in words. This was the award winning book. Highly entertaining with serious notes on racism, discrimination and injustice.
